Kei Osanai (Yo Oizumi) has a happy life with his wife Kozue Osanai (Kou Shibasaki) and daughter Ruri. Suddenly his life is upended when Kozue and Ruri die in a car accident. A man named Akihiko Misumi (Ren Meguro) pays a visit to Kei and tells him that Ruri--who Akihiko did not know at the time--was coming to see him on the day Kozue and Ruri died. Akihiko confides in Kei that he once loved a woman named Ruri Masaki (Kasumi Arimura). Although the two Ruris are entirely different people, Kei can't help but feel like they're connected.
