Making a war is a storyteller’s job. A good story is crucial to legitimize the use of military force. That’s why militaries need strong promotion and Israel is a model country in promoting its military ventures. We’ve successfully colonized, occupied and overgrown, and only got stronger and more accepted amongst the nations. Our history as persecuted Jews, and our enlightened democracy are both in use in our solid PR kit. But before pitching our story to the world, we need to pitch it to our children. As moral corruption linked with apartheid thrives, avoiding military service becomes a threat. For some children we’ll offer benefits, for most we’ll sell fictitious promises. Every child is screened to serve with bearable pressure and an adjusted amount of exposure to violence. INNOCENCE tells the story of children who resisted to be enlisted but capitulated. Their stories were never told as they died during their service. Through a narration based on their haunting diaries, the film depicts their inner turmoil. It interweaves first-hand military images, key moments from childhood until enlistment and home videos of the deceased soldiers whose stories are silenced and seen as a national threat.

Iran is once again in the spotlight at this year's Cannes Film Festival. This Friday, recently exiled filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof will present his film "The Seeds of the Sacred Fig", selected in Official Competition. Like Rasoulof, many Iranian artists have faced prison or exile. The photography exhibition “Women, Life, Freedom”, showcased at the Hôtel Le Majestic for the duration of the festival, pays tribute to their courage with a series of giant portraits by photographer Moja. FRANCE 24’s Juliette Montilly and Nina Masson report.

داستان فیلم روایت‌گر زندگی چند خانواده است که برای گذراندن تعطیلات به شمال کشور سفر کرده‌اند. دوستان احمد که پس از سال‌ها زندگی در آلمان به ایران بازگشته، در تلاش هستند تا همسری را برای او بیابند. به همین خاطر، مربی مهدکودکی به نام «اِلی» با دعوت سپیده، به همراه دیگران به این سفر آمده‌است. امّا پس از ناپدید شدن الی در ساحل دریا، ماجرا به تراژدی تبدیل می‌شود و هر کس در مورد این مسئله به قضاوت پرداخته و دیگری را مقصر می‌داند. تا آن‌جا که جمع به خاطر منافع خود زمانی‌که نامزد جستجوگر الی در پی او از راه می‌رسد از حمایت الی دست کشیده و سپیده را مجاب می‌نماید که در مورد الی حرف‌های نادرست و دروغ‌های کوچکی بگوید؛ دروغ‌هایی که تبدیل به فاجعه می‌شوند. ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡

‘Alone Through Iran – 1144 Miles of Trust’ – Kristina Paltén, a lone Swedish woman, began her run through Iran on September 5th 2015. She was to become the first woman ever to run across Iran. Kristina, with her two world records in both 12-hours and 48-hours running on a treadmill, chose Iran for her run for three main reasons. The beautiful nature, the long distance and her own prejudices against the country. Without any prior connection to the country she wanted to explore a, to her, unknown country upon which she only had the western media coverage to rely on to understand. During two months Kristina therefore challenged herself and her own fears for the unknown and her own prejudices about what a muslim country means for a lone woman running 1144 miles. The film follows Kristina before, during and after her run and portray both her running but also her inner journey. The journey where she challenges her own and other’s prejudices and fears by meeting the people she has heard so little about, the people along the road in Iran. Synopsis: Ava (Mahour Jabbari) is a bright and diligent and teenager from a comfortable Tehran home who – like her peers – is concerned with both her academic and social status. However, Ava becomes distracted by a bet she has taken with her friends to win a date with Nima
(Houman Hoursan), her violin partner. Ava desires to pursue a career in music but her controlling mother, Bahar (Bahar Noohian), who is a successful doctor, forbids this, whilst her father (Vahid Aghapoor), is willing to entertain the prospect. The divide between her parents manifests in contrasting parental styles and when Bahar learns of Ava’s relationship
with Nima, she becomes mistrustful and forces Ava to be checked by a gynaecologist. The incident enrages Ava and sets in motion a series of rebellious acts that irreparably impact her well-being and reputation. Without the support of her mother, Ava grows closer to her gentler father, but she is ultimately alone in her struggles against the constraints of her society.
