Dalla regista Patty Jenkins e con protagonista Gal Gadot nel ruolo che dà il titolo al film, “Wonder Woman 1984” fa un balzo in avanti fino agli anni ’80, dove l’ultima avventura di Wonder Woman la vede cavalcare fulmini nel cielo, indossare ali dorate e inseguire un suo sogno mentre è alla caccia di due nuovi e formidabili nemici: Max Lord e Cheetah.

In “Wonder Woman 1984”, il destino del mondo è nuovamente in pericolo, e solo l’intervento di Wonder Woman riuscirà a salvarlo. Questo nuovo capitolo della storia di Wonder Woman, vede Diana Prince vivere tranquillamente in mezzo ai mortali nei vibranti e scintillanti anni ‘80—un’epoca di eccessi spinta dal bisogno di possedere tutto. Nonostante sia ancora in possesso di tutti i suoi poteri, mantiene un basso profilo, occupandosi di antichi manufatti e agendo come supereroina solo in incognito. Ma adesso, Diana dovrà uscire allo scoperto e fare appello alla sua saggezza, alla sua forza e al suo coraggio per salvare il genere umano da un mondo in pericolo di vita.

Nel film sono protagonisti anche Chris Pine nel ruolo di Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig in quello di Cheetah, Pedro Pascal è Max Lord, Robin Wright è Antiope e Connie Nielsen come Hippolyta.

Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot e Stephen Jones hanno prodotto il film. Rebecca Steel Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Marianne Jenkins, Geoff Johns, Walter Hamada, Chantal Nong Vo e Wesley Coller sono i produttori esecutivi.

Jenkins ha diretto da una sceneggiatura scritta da lei stessa assieme a Geoff Johns & Dave Callaham, da un soggetto di Jenkins & Johns, basato sui personaggi della DC. Wonder Woman è stata ideata da William Moulton Marston. Accanto alla regista, dietro le quinte, troviamo diversi membri della troupe del primo “Wonder Woman”, tra cui il direttore della fotografia Matthew Jensen, la scenografa candidata all’Oscar® Aline Bonetto (“Amélie”) e la costumista premio Oscar® Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy”). Alex Rogan (Lance Guest) spielt nichts lieber als das Arcade-Game "Starfighter", niemand ist darin besser als er. Als sich eines Tages ein Mann namens Centauri (Robert Preston) bei Alex vorstellt und ihm offenbart er seiner einer der Erfinder des Spiels und Alex schließlich auch noch einlädt ihn zu begleiten zögert Alex nicht lang. Kurz darauf fliegt jedoch der völlig überraschte Alex zusammen mit Centauri in einem DeLorean durchs Weltall! Vollkommen perplex vom soeben erlebten und angekommen auf einer Raumstation wird Alex erzählt, dass die "Starfighter"-Spielautomaten nur aufgestellt wurden um fähige Piloten zu finden die die Galaxie vor einer drohenden Invasion retten können (und müssen) - Alex ist aufgrund seiner Fähigkeiten einer dieser Piloten.
Trotzdem bittet er darum wieder nach Hause zu können, er fühlt sich mit der Aufgabe und der Situation vollkommen überfordert. Zu Hause angekommen merkt Alex, das ihm offenbar einige der außerirdischen Jäger gefolgt sind und er sein normales Leben vorerst nicht wieder aufnehmen kann. Er kehrt wieder zur Raumstation zurück. Dort hat allerdings in der Zwischenzeit ein verheerender Angriff der Invasoren stattgefunden, dem alle anderen Piloten zum Opfer gefallen sind.
Nur Alex verbleibt als letzte Hoffnung und als letzter Kampfpilot eines Starfighters um die Invasion noch zu verhindern ...
