The Northern port city of Acco (Acre) is a mixed (Jewish-Arab) city. The city's Palestinian population—both Muslim and Christian, and for the large part "Palestinians of 1948," who were the residents of Israel when it was granted statehood—has been there for generations. As Acco has become an increasingly-popular tourist destination, however, there has been a concerted push to change the long-standing demographics, resulting in a government-backed push to move Palestinians out of the Old City. In the hands of the filmmakers, a traditional rite of passage in Acco, the act of jumping from the ancient 40-foot seawall, becomes a metaphor for the perilous situation and great bravery of the city's Palestinian population. A tough, deeply empathetic film that may suggest uneasy parallels between subtler gentrification, as we know it, and actual forced relocation.

OPENS IN NEW YORK CITY JANUARY 29th, 2010! Tarek, a Palestinian forced on a suicide mission in Tel Aviv to redeem his fathers honor, is given a second chance when the fuse on his explosive vest fails to detonate. Forced to spend the weekend in Tel Aviv awaiting its repair, Tarek must live amongst the people he was planning to kill. To his surprise he connects with several Israelis on the outskirts of society, including the beautiful Keren, who has cut off contact with her Orthodox family and upbringing. With nothing to lose, Tarek and Keren open up to one another, and an unlikely love blooms between two isolated and damaged individuals, raised to be enemies.
However, with the deadly load of explosives still strapped to him, he must spend 48 hours in the city, caught between the men that sent him—who can blow up his bomb remotely—, the Israeli police patrolling the streets and his new-found companions. Spending this time with Keren and his new friends, Tarek discovers the spark of life returning to fill his soul, but when the weekend ends, Tarek must make the decision of his life.

Long lost but now found -- An American Hippie in Israel in 35mm! American hippie-soldier Mike (Asher Tzarfati) travels to Israel shortly after his involvement in the Vietnam War. He gets to know three Israelis — stage actress Elizabeth (Lily Avidan), a female hippie friend (Tzila Karney), and her Hebrew-speaking boyfriend Komo (Shmuel Wolf). They join a bigger group of hippies and barely survive when a duo of stalking mimes gun down the crowd. The quartet flee to an uninhabited island along with a goat. They settle down and wake up the following sunrise to find that their boat and goat have vanished. The shark-infested waters make it impossible for them to swim to the mainland. In Israel, everybody knows about the "blue boxes" that were used in the 1950s to raise funds for the purchase of land in Palestine. Joseph Weits, the filmmaker's great-grandfather, is well-known for having planted millions of trees, less for orchestrating the expropriation of Palestinian land. His diaries reveal an uncomfortable truth.
Walker, an international assassin/hitman, is compromised during a mission. His handler sends him to a Reassignment Center at which Walker will be processed for a new identity. During his stay at the facility, a ruthless assault team storms the compound searching for someone their boss has lost. Walker begrudgingly falls in with Elda, a skilled hitwoman, and Juliet, her mysterious ward, in order to maximize the chance to survive the night.

This Independence Day, audiences in Pakistan will have the chance to witness a cinematic love letter to the motherland.
Directed by Jami, Moor (pronounced 'Mor' and alternatively used for 'mother' and 'the land' in Pushto) has been in the works for a while. Jami began working on the film in 2007 and it sees fruition after nearly eight years, the year after he made his debut as film director with O21.
Packed with action and drama, the film is Jami’s answer to “how we should handle ourselves in a Pakistan where a new drama unfolds everyday.” The Moor team shared this and more at the press meet held in Karachi yesterday, where the film's latest trailer was shown.
The movie seemed promising. However, much like Waar and many other Pakistani films, so much time has passed between the hype (trailer) and the release, one almost has to revive the memory of the trailer that got us interested in the first place.
Two years of anticipation and tentative dates of release later, Moor is finally slated to hit cinemas on August 14.
