POETIC JUSTICE REVIEW BY LISA KENNEDY
Writer-director John Singleton followed his groundbreaking debut “Boyz N the Hood” with this 1993 romantic drama set in South Central that paired popular music quasars Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur as Justice and Lucky. She’s a hairdresser who lost her first love to violence; he’s a postal worker with a little daughter. Far from meeting cute, the two meet antagonistic. Then they hit the road -- L.A. to Oakland along the Pacific Coast Highway -- with her bestie Iesha (Regina King) and his co-worker Chicago (Joe Torry), a frisky and volatile couple. The blemish here is the tenor of its battle of the sexes, which takes cues from the tiresome misogyny of the rap of the time. It hasn’t aged well. Justice and Lucky’s relationship feels forced and the trauma inflicted to draw them close overstated. Besides King’s turn as loyal if reckless Iesha (she had a smaller role in “Boyz”), what remains memorable is the Maya Angelou aura: the poet makes a cameo as an auntie pontificating on the morals of young folks and the words that make Justice so poetic are hers.

Director Steven Spielberg may have created the Jurassic Park movie franchise, but Jurassic World 4 desperately needs to stop being obsessed with recreating his classic. It is no secret that ongoing franchises have driven the movie business for quite some time now, with studios reluctant to invest resources in anything but existing intellectual property. In a world where streaming new release movies at home has become more and more commonplace, this stance from Hollywood is somewhat understandable, as theaters fight to retain their share of the entertainment space.

In the last decade, the Jurassic World trilogy has proven to be one of the most consistent theatrical draws around, with Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom both earning well over $1 billion at the box office. Despite the spotty reputation of sequels The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3, the Jurassic World movies have shown that audiences are still hungry for more dinosaur-based adventures. However, the reaction to Jurassic World: Dominion may illustrate that this hunger is abating.

While there haven't been many Mortal Kombat 2 story details, the end of Mortal Kombat sets up further invasions by Shang Tsung (Chin Han) as he seeks to use his Outworld allies to prevent a fair Mortal Kombat tournament from happening. Though the wait to find out who will be playing the iconic Johnny Cage is getting harder, it was confirmed in the very final shot of Mortal Kombat that the smart-talking Hollywood star will be in the sequel too. In more confirmed Mortal Kombat 2 updates, an actual Mortal Kombat tournament will be shown in a Mortal Kombat 2 movie, making up for its absence in the first movie.

It has been all but confirmed that Joe Taslim will return in Mortal Kombat 2 too, which was teased by Garner, but it might not be as Sub-Zero. Taslim will likely return as Noob Saibot, the shadow that the character turns into after being killed by Scorpion in the game lore. It was previously reported that Taslim signed a five-movie deal with Warner Bros. so it's hardly surprising that the character is returning in some capacity despite his death in the 2021 movie.
