Der sudetendeutsche Geschäftsmann Oskar Schindler kommt 1939 nach Krakau, um in den Wirren des Zweiten Weltkrieges Profit zu machen. Als "seine" Juden nach Auschwitz deportiert werden sollen, setzt Schindler sein Privatvermögen und nicht zuletzt auch sein Leben aufs Spiel, um so viele wie möglich vor dem sicheren Tod zu retten.
