When the cat's away ... you'll survive another day.

The Leningrad Cowboys Go Amerika, is the most well-known film represent the odd comedies of Aki Kaurismäki. The story concerns the exploits of an extremely inept but dedicated troupe of rock band, “The Leningrad Cowboys,” whose sheer awfulness puts SCTV’s Schmenge brothers in the shade. In fact, in order to stop having to listen to them, a local record producer advises them to go to America, and paints a glowing picture of the success they will enjoy there. These eight Finnish lads are dressed as they think true hipster musicians should be (ducktails, sunglasses, fur coats, pointy-toed shoes), and they head off for New York. There they encounter yet another wise guy, who sends them off to Mexico by car to play at his cousin’s wedding (he apparently hates his cousin). Along the way, they get bookings wherever they can, learn American music styles, and get along fabulously.

The comic misadventures of the beleaguered Griswold family continue in the third and most successful entry in the Vacation film series. This time America's most dedicated dad, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase), is determined to stay at home to create "the most fun-filled old fashioned family Christmas ever" -- but life has a particular way of throwing wet logs on the Griswold family fire. Make merry with Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid and an ensemble of comedy favorites (look for Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus from TV's Seinfeld in a supporting role). Written by John Hughes (Home Alone series).

Rare trailer for the obscure 1990 schlocker ELVES starring a chain-smoking Dan Haggerty as an alcoholic ex-cop turned department store Santa who unwittingly becomes the only person that can prevent Neo-Nazis from completing their diabolical plan to spawn a psychotic satanic elf that must mate with a purebred Aryan virgin by Christmas Eve in order to procreate Adolf Hitler's half-human/half-elf master race that will conquer the world.

I'm not making any of this up. What I have just described is the actual plot. Not a comedy or even tongue-in-cheek horror flick; ELVES takes itself awfully serious for a motion picture involving the occult, the Antichrist, incest, Neo Nazis with fake German accents, a Mommy Dearest that drowns pets in the toilet, a perverted kid brother who peeps on his sister as she dresses, a virgin girl wielding a magical elfstone, Dan Haggerty chain smoking even as he brushes his teeth, and a horny, knife-wielding, pistol-packin elf.
