Plot
A television infomercial introduces the audience to a rich entrepreneur Robert Axle (Spacey), a "fabricator" who combines other people's inventions into popular consumer products. But one of his products causes severe injuries to purchasers, which results in an eight-year term in prison. Released and broke, he wants to get back on his feet with fresh inventions. More important, he wants to reclaim the love of his estranged daughter (Belle), whom he neglected when she was a youngster. First, though, he must get past a doubtful parole officer, dubious employers and his daughter's man-hating roommate (Graham).
Other roles include Spacey's ex-wife (Madsen), her new husband (Robinson), and his new employer (Knoxville). A second roommate, played by Anna Anissimova, starts out as one of the film's more notable personalities, then turns into something of a plot gimmick.

From director Todd Phillips (“The Hangover” trilogy) comes “War Dogs,” starring Oscar nominee Jonah Hill (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Moneyball”) and Miles Teller (“Whiplash,” the “Divergent” trilogy).

Based on a true story, “War Dogs” follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami Beach during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.

The film also stars Ana de Armas (“Knock Knock”) and Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper (“American Sniper,” “American Hustle”).
The screenplay is by Stephen Chin and Todd Phillips & Jason Smilovic, based on the Rolling Stone article titled “Arms and the Dudes,” by Guy Lawson. Mark Gordon (“Steve Jobs”), Todd Phillips and Bradley Cooper are the producers, with David Siegel and Bryan Zuriff serving as executive producers.

“War Dogs” reunites Phillips with several of his collaborators from “The Hangover” trilogy, including director of photography Lawrence Sher, production designer Bill Brzeski and editor Jeff Groth. Joining the team is costume designer Michael Kaplan (“Star Trek,” “Star Trek: Into Darkness”). The music is by Cliff Martinez (“Drive,” “Traffic”).

Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.

When FBI Special Agent Joe Merriwether (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is unable to solve a series of homicides, he decides to enlist the help of his former colleague Dr. John Clancy (Anthony Hopkins), a retired physician with psychic powers. The reclusive Clancy, who shuttered his practice and retreated from the world following the death of his daughter and subsequent break-up of his marriage, wants nothing to do with the case. He soon changes his mind after seeing disturbingly violent visions of Joe’s partner, FBI Special Agent Katherine Cowles’s (Abbie Cornish) ultimate demise.
