Bond 26, the codename for the 26th film in the 60-year-old James Bond movie series, has not yet been officially announced, but its release is as inevitable as 007 enjoying his martini shaken and not stirred.

For years now, the former Superman actor has been a frontrunner to play James Bond, the British MI6 agent who has enthralled audiences since first created by author/real-life World War II spy Ian Fleming.

Back in 2005, Henry Cavill was actually one of the final picks to play 007 in the reboot Casino Royale, only for producers to overrule director Martin Campbell and select Daniel Craig. The latter actor spent the next 16 years playing James Bond, finally bowing out with No Time to Die.

In the meantime, Henry Cavill took on the role of Superman/Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, only to see his role increasingly sidelined until he bowed out with a brief cameo in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. He also portrayed Geralt of Rivia in the mega-popular Netflix fantasy series The Witcher until he was recently replaced by Liam Hemsworth for unclear reasons.

For a brief moment, it seemed as though Henry Cavill was finally going to get to play spy in Guy Ritchie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the reboot of the popular James Bond-style 1964 television series. However, the movie bombed hard at the box office, and our dreams of Superman as Super-Spy were dashed once again.

The trailer for Argylle, the upcoming Matthew Vaughn spy thriller, has finally been released, and it turns out that Henry Cavill will be playing a James Bond analog in more ways than one.

The search for the next 007 is currently ongoing. Among the most commonly mentioned candidates are Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, and Rege-Jean Page, but the most credible rumour to date is that Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson could be the next actor to play Bond.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this adaptation of Ian Fleming's 1955 novel, James Bond (Roger Moore) must thwart Sir Hugo Drax (Michel Lonsdale), who plans to wipe out all of humankind and replace it with a super race that he has cultivated in a massive space station. The girl in the case is American secret agent Holly Goodhead, intelligently played by Lois Chiles. "Jaws," the steel-mouthed henchman played by Richard Kiel in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), makes a return appearance in Moonraker, turning good guy (complete with a girlfriend of his own) in the process. Bernard Lee makes his last appearance as "M" in this most costly of James Bond's 1970s escapades.
