Tavernier's blistering assault - based on the award-winning graphic novel by Abel Lanzac, a former government speech writer - zeroes in on fictional Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandre Taillard de Vorms (a tour-de-force comic performance by Thierry Lhermitte). A human whirlwind and a man confident in France's importance on the world stage, de Vorms takes on American neo-cons, corrupt Russians and the opportunistic Chinese while his hapless speech writer (Raphael Personnaz) endures the eccentricities of his megalomaniacal boss and his sycophantic entourage. In the vein of recent political comedies such as In the Loop, The French Minister is a hilarious send-up of diplomacy and international politics with rapid-fire dialogue and a brilliant ensemble cast.

Based on the true story, SOBIBOR tells the story of the heroism of Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky. Sobibor was one of four concentration camps in Poland. Prisoners were not separated into two groups like many of the other camps: fit or unfit for work. Those who arrived in Sobibor were doomed for death. With the greatest odds against him, our hero managed to do the impossible — in only three weeks he organized a daring revolt, which aided the mass escape of Sobibor’s condemned prisoners. Some of the escapees were caught and shot, but the rest followed Pechersky and managed to escape. They joined the resistance to fight the Nazis. Pechersky’s victory was such an embarrassment, the camp was dismantled at Himmler’s order & Alexander considered one of the Great Russian heroes of WW2.

'The Hardy Bucks Movie' sees the lads finally leave Castletown and head out on a wild road trip across Europe.

Adam is a Catholic priest who discovered his calling as a servant of God at the relatively late age of 21. He now lives in a village in rural Poland where he works with teenagers with behavioral problems who fight and yell abuse. Newly arrived from England to marry his fiancee Zaneta (Agnieszka Zulewska, Chemo), Peter (Israeli actor Itay Tiran, Lebanon) has been given a gift of her family’s ramshackle country house in rural Poland. It’s a total fixer-upper, and while inspecting the premises on the eve of the wedding, he falls into a pile of human remains. The ceremony proceeds, but strange things begin to happen… During the wild reception, Peter begins to come undone, and a dybbuk, the iconic ancient figure from Jewish folklore, takes a toehold in this present-day celebration-for a very particular reason, as it turns out. The final work by Marcin Wrona, who died just as DEMON was set to premiere in Poland, is part absurdist comedy, part love story-that scares, amuses, and charms in equal measure.

In Warsaw, a pair of mermaid sisters are adopted into a cabaret. While one seeks love with humans the other hungers to dine on the human population of the city.

I discovered this film rather recently thanks to the Martin Scorsese Polish Masterpieces Blu-Ray boxset. This is a widescreen epic that rivaled anything that came out of Hollywood during that period of time, and you’ll never convince me otherwise! One incredible composition after another, impressive long camera moves, and a commentary about naivety and the true nature of power. Timeless stuff really. Of course, a 3 hour-long subtitled Polish film about ancient Egypt isn't going to be for everyone, but if you enjoy this trailer, I urge you to seek it out! -- DM
